If the person who built your site has disappeared completely, treat it as a recovery problem first and a redesign decision second. The domain, hosting and backups determine how quickly control can be restored.

Start with the domain

If the business controls the domain registrar, you still have the ability to point customers somewhere useful even if the original hosting becomes inaccessible. Confirm the account and renewal details first.

Locate the hosting and website copy

Search invoices/emails and investigate DNS to identify the host. If the site is WordPress, hosting access may be enough to copy the files and database. Look for off-site backups as well.

Check email before moving anything

The old hosting may also contain business mailboxes or DNS records for Google Workspace/Microsoft 365. Record those dependencies before changing nameservers.

Restore service before redesigning

If the site can be recovered, stabilise it first. Decide whether to keep, repair or rebuild once the business is no longer dependent on a vanished supplier.
