“My website is with GoDaddy” is not enough information to choose a migration route. GoDaddy now offers different builders, and one of them is already WordPress. The first step is identifying which product is actually running the site.
Identify the GoDaddy product first
The site may use Websites + Marketing, the newer Airo AI Builder, Airo for WordPress, or another hosting arrangement. The options differ, so do not quote a migration based only on the registrar or invoice branding.
Websites + Marketing usually means a rebuild
For the classic hosted builder, the practical route to WordPress is normally to inventory the live pages/content and build a WordPress replacement. GoDaddy backups help restore the hosted builder but are not the same as a portable WordPress site, and platform-specific features need recreating.
Airo AI Builder can provide project files
The newer Airo AI Builder has options to work with/download project files. That can change what is reusable, but downloadable code is not automatically a finished WordPress theme or a clean long-term CMS. We inspect the files and decide whether reuse is sensible or whether a proper WordPress build is cleaner.
Airo for WordPress may not need migration at all
If the site is already Airo for WordPress, the problem may be hosting, access or management rather than platform. In that case a Website Takeover or Hosting Migration can be better value than rebuilding WordPress as WordPress.
The domain can stay at GoDaddy
A domain registered with GoDaddy does not have to move registrar just because the website moves. You can keep the domain there and point DNS to new hosting once the replacement is ready. Email can also remain on its existing provider if the DNS records are preserved.
Preserve SEO and switch only when ready
Record the existing URLs, copy useful content and metadata, plan redirects, build the replacement away from the live site and test forms/mobile/analytics before changing DNS. Keep the old setup long enough to confirm that the new site and email are functioning correctly.
GoDaddy registration does not dictate where the website lives
Many owners think “GoDaddy has my domain, so GoDaddy has to host my site”. Those are separate services. You can keep a well-managed GoDaddy domain account while hosting WordPress elsewhere. The same applies to Microsoft 365 or other email services purchased through or alongside GoDaddy: moving the website does not automatically mean moving every connected service.
Choose the destination based on the business, not the brand name
For a normal service website, WordPress is often a practical destination because it gives broad developer choice and portable hosting. For an eCommerce or custom application, WooCommerce, Shopify or a custom stack may be more appropriate. The important thing is to solve the limitations that caused the GoDaddy move rather than simply changing logos on the invoice.
